Life outside photography is full too. I’m married to a firefighter, raising two boys, working, juggling schedules, and figuring out dinner like everyone else.
I’ve spent more than ten years photographing families throughout Middle Georgia, so there is plenty of experience behind the camera, but also a real understanding of what family life looks like on the other side of it.
I didn’t realize how often I was missing from the photos.
Like a lot of moms, I was usually the one taking the picture.
I had plenty of photos of my boys growing up, but when I looked back, there were far fewer that showed me there with them.
That changed the way I thought about family photography. These photographs matter now, but they may matter even more to the kids who will someday want to see what life looked like with their mom in it too.

What I pay attention to has changed too.
Part of my job is noticing that and responding to it rather than trying to make every family look the same.
You’ll still have direction when you need it, but the goal is to photograph the family you actually have, not a polished version of one.
Not only as the person who planned the outfits, remembered the snacks, and made sure everyone got there.
As the person they know as Mom.
The person they reach for, laugh with, lean on, and know better than anyone else.
You may not feel like you need those photographs right now. Your children may feel differently about them someday.
You deserve to be part of the family record too.
